F-4B PHANTOM II  RECOVERY REPORT

On September 29th,
Chuck Mosely, Ray Brown, your EAA 1236 Chapter President and Vice-president, and John Macon, fellow EAA Chapter member
and former President, departed Love's Landing and traveled to the
National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola, FL.
They were joined there by Cris Ferguson of Evensville, Arkansas, John McGraw of Charlotte, North Carolina, Denny Parmer of Santa Rosa, California, Claud Smith of Hinsdale, New York and Donald Scacchi of Hinsdale, New York.

On the 30th they began the dis-assembly process for this Phantom II.  Dis-assembly took place in the Restoration Hangar. The team was assisted in the process by:   Lloyd Havslip, Ricky Haun, Doug Kirby and George Maxey - all from the National Museum of Naval Aviation Staff.

After four days of concentrated effort by every one involved, our team was able to separate the fuselage and wings of this aircraft and load the fuselage onto the trucks which would deliver it to its new display site.

The fifth day was spent preparing the wing center section for transportation.
Due to the size of an F-4B Phantom II, the fuselage, outer-wing panels, ailerons,  and a few other items were loaded onto the first truck, and the wing center section and horizontal stabilator were transported as a second load.

This aircraft will be re-assembled, and proudly displayed at the
American Legion Post 1434 in Hinsdale, NY.

After completion of our aircraft recovery operation, our team members were given a VIP Treatment Tour of the National Museum of Naval Aviation.  Always
a pleasure, if you haven't had a chance to visit,
you should definitely put it very high on a priority list of things to do.
