EAA Chapter 1236
APRIL  2002
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ PRESIDENT'S FORUM

  Greetings Fellow Chapter Members,
Time once again for our newsletter.
I would just like to start out by telling you all that where ever I go ,  I have heard nothing but rave reviews  about our 9 march 2002 fly–in.  Centered around Hugh and Ida’s hangar , as those of you who attended can attest , it soon became a bee hive of activity.
Best variety, and numbers of aircraft seen by many in a long , long time.  A fantastic social function.  Great food.  A lot of information was exchanged.  Everyone had a great time.  Most importantly ,  it just goes to show  how good our chapter is at organizing , and sponsoring these type of events.
Once again , my hat is off to each and every one of our members who took part in this event , in any  way , big and small.  You were the ones who made it happen , and turned it into such a major success.
As you know, we elected to cancel our April Chapter meeting . This was in order to afford our Chapter members every opportunity to take part in all of the activity associated with this year’s Sun ‘n Fun events.  And I hope that you are in fact taking advantage of the chance to participate in all that Sun ‘n Fun has to offer.
That is all I have for now, I look forward to seeing all of you during our next regularly scheduled meeting:
         Date: 11 May 2002    Time : 10:00 am
Place:  Ray and Judy Brown’s hangar  -   Loves Landing ( first house and hangar at the south end of runway 36)
      Until then
       Fly safely,
                     CHUCK MOSELY

FAA Will Hold On-Line Sport Pilot/Light-Sport Aircraft Forum April 1-19
The FAA will host a first-ever public on-line forum to solicit questions and answers for the sport pilot/light-sport aircraft NPRM. The electronic Q & A is intended to supplement the traditional comment period, scheduled to run through May 6, 2002, to produce "a clear and comprehensive final rule." The forum opens at 9 a.m. EDT on April 1 and closes at 4:30 p.m. EDT on April 19, 2002. The URL for the forum area is www.rulemakingpublicforum.com.  Specifically, the FAA has posed 16 questions to which they are seeking responses.  You will be able to read the questions on-line and submit your answers and comments electronically.  To see a complete listing of the questions go to:  http://www.eaa.org/communications/eaanews/020319_questions.html

Beware – A  Precedent is Set
The US Supreme court has denied a petition filed by the Friends of Richards-Gebaur Airport over the highly questionable manner in which the FAA approved Kansas City's request to dispose of a "surplus" airport under Federal grant assurances. This airport is now permanently closed.  Unfortunately, this now means that all such former military airports that have been given to local communities to serve as public-use airports are now essentially up-for-grabs.  If you live near such an airport (or you use such an airport)  get organized now to begin defending it.

QUOTE:
“My father had been opposed to my flying from the first and had never flown himself. However, he had agreed to go up with  me at the first opportunity, and one afternoon he climbed into the cockpit and we flew over the Redwood Falls together.  From that day on I never heard a word against my flying and he never missed a chance to ride in the plane.”Charles Lindbergh, 'We,' 1928

HOPE TO SEE YOU MAY 11TH AT RAY & JUDY BROWN'S HANGAR!
