EAA CHAPTER 1236 AUGUST 2002 NEWSLETTER
PRESIDENT’S FORUM They say that time flies when you’re having fun. It sure does! Here it is time once again to publish our Newsletter. Having just completed our August 10th EAA meeting, I would like to thank Dick and Diane McLean for all of their fine efforts put forth to host our meeting. 29 members present, 7 fly-ins 2 guests: Mr. Hal Peters Mr. E. J. Mohot Hal Peters also became our newest member. I know that you all join me in welcoming Hal to our organization. In addition to co-hosting our meeting, Dick McLean also provided a very interesting and informative brief on his 1928 Lincoln Page project as well as the Curtis OX-5 engine mounted on a test stand in his hangar. We were also able to receive a brief from Herb Clark, detailing his four-day adventure to Oshkosh while flying his Stearman. A very interesting story that ended well. Herb’s Stearman was awarded as the Reserve Grand Champion for 2002. Congratulations, Herb. Well done. Well deserved. I received a call from Jim Brody in Alaska. He informs me that he had just completed his third 100-hour inspection on his DHC-2 Beaver since his start of flying season in mid May. He will probably get at least 200 more hours of flight time this season. We all look forward to his return, and the debrief of his adventures. Al Nase gave us a brief about the loss of oil pressure on the engine of a PA-12. A good example of the close attention to detail and material condition required in aviation. One of the items of old business discussed during our recent meetings was the issue of our chapter dues. We have always danced around the issue of dues-due date. Thanks to Dick McLean we now have a clear-cut policy statement regarding our chapter dues ($10.00 a year) and their due date (January 31st of each year). The statement is as follows: “ Chapter renewal dues are due by January 31st of each year. We will continue to send a newsletter to overdue members for a period of three month (through April). After April 30th, if renewal has not been made, we will assume that the member does not wish to renew, and his or her name will be dropped from the membership list. The member will be sent a notice by the method he or she receives the newsletter, advising that he or she has been dropped from the membership.” This statement is also included as part of the new member information package. Thanks, Dick, for formulating and putting together the new packet. Nice work, great product. Everything our new members need in one source. That is about all I have for now. See you all at our next meeting: September 14th 2002 @ 10:00 a.m. Ollie & Lorene’s Hangar – Love’s Landing – Mid N/S Runway Fly Safely! Chuck Mosely ( Chuckmo )

FROM THE FAA OFFICE OF RUNWAY SAFETY DATE: June 1, 2002 AIRPORT: Boeing Field, Seattle WA (BFI) WEATHER: Day VFR NARRATIVE: A Cessna 172, cleared to land Runway 31L, landed Runway 13L after acknowledging Runway 31L. A Lancair was landing Runway 31R at the same time. Both a/c came to a stop abeam Taxiway A4, facing each other. Closest proximity was less than 100 feet. ASF COMMENTS: Extra vigilance must be used when operating at an airport that has the 31/13 runway designation. It's easy to transpose the numbers. Parallel runway operations offer similar opportunities for confusion.
TEAM SWEET BABOO
