Our thanks go out to
Clint and Mary Rule and their warm hospitality at our recent meeting, June 8th, 2002.  We were impressed by the culinary efforts put forth by Chef Richard – the hamburgers, hot-dogs and all the fixens were delicious.  We look forward to seeing everyone at our next meetings:

July 13th  10:00 a.m. at Ollie and Lorene Washburn’s (Mid N/S Runway – Love’s Landing)

August 10th 10:00 a.m. at Dick and Diane McLean’s (West side Hobby Hill Runway)

WHAT IS THE EAA? The EAA is a growing and diverse organization of members with a wide range of aviation interests and backgrounds. It was founded as the Experimental Aircraft Association in 1953 by a group of individuals in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who were interested in building their own airplanes. More than 170,000 people belong to EAA, with Chapters located in all 50 states and many countries.  Through the decades, the organization expanded its mission to include antiques, classics, warbirds, aerobatic aircraft, ultralights, helicopters and contemporary manufactured aircraft. More importantly, the organization focused on people, offering the opportunity to make new aviation friends and form relationships while encouraging the sharing of information, stories and enthusiasm.

SAFETY TIP When departing Love Field on Runway 18, the safest spot for run up and departure is about 500’ from the juncture of the 09/27 Runway.  Run up across the runway from  the “Pink House”.  From there you can see any oncoming traffic.  Of course, if you should need more than 3,000’ for your take off, this Safety Tip is not for you.

PIREPS     Pireps are voluntary and are provided to air traffic facilities about weather encountered by an aircraft in flight. While there is a preferred order in which you provide the information, it is more important to give the report rather than worry about including every item. If more information is needed, the weather briefer will request it. The information they need is: aircraft ID and type; your location, usually in reference to the closest VOR or airport;  your altitude; time; and finally, the weather that you see.  Pireps are discussed in Section 7-1-19 of the "Aeronautical Information Manual" (AIM).

WEATHER TRIVIA How long does it take for a small cloud to mature into a thunderstorm?
Only 20-30 minutes.   At what wind speed will a flag stand straight out?   30 mph or greater.  (From the Weather Channel)
