^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ PRESIDENTS FORUM Having just completed our Chapter’s November meeting, there are a lot of things I would like to cover. First of all, a great turnout, 35 of our members present, with 12 fly-in aircraft. I would like to thank Paul and Lois Wilson, and all the rest of our Woods and Lakes members for a fantastic job as our hosts for this November meeting. As you know, this was a very important meeting, as we were taking nominations for our Chapter officer leadership positions. This was done in order to have our election of officers in December. Nominations were made and seconded, to have all of the existing officers stay on for one more year . A vote from those present made it official. I speak for each of your elected officials when I say that we appreciate your votes of confidence. We all realize that serving as your representatives is a privilege, and we do not take it lightly. The real good news is that Jane Craig, our Newsletter Editor, Dick McLean, our Membership Coordinator, and Hugh Johnson, our Events Coordinator, have all agreed to serve another year also . Once again thank you. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our two newest members. Dr. Michael Witt Mr. Bob Henderson I know that you all join me in welcoming both of these gents to our Chapter Organization . The Ocala EAA Chapter has invited our entire Chapter membership to attend their annual fly-in and luncheon at Loves Landing on the 16th of November 2002. This will be a covered dish affair, spot bombing, and spot landing contests will also be held. Randy Hartigan has offered the use of his hangar for this event, so mark it on your calendar, and plan to attend. Additionally, we have also received an invite to attend the Hobby Hill Christmas Fly-in Luncheon. This invite comes from the Hobby Hill gang of Herb Clark, Dick McLean, and Gary Wimberly. Mark this one on your calendar also, as the fly-in events at Hobby Hill are always great events. As we have already taken care of our elections, it was voted and approved that we would all attend this fly-in at Hobby Hill and have an active and enjoyable afternoon in place of our normal December Chapter Meeting that was originally scheduled for the same day. This brings us to our Chapter Christmas Party, Where : Ollie and Lorene Washburn's hangar, Love’s Landing When : 20 December 2002 Time : 5:00 p.m. Until ??? The main course for dinner will be provided, but we need you to bring a covered dish. This will also be a BYOB event. Gift exchange also, $ 10.00 limit – one gift per person. That is all for now. I hope to see you all at the following events: 16th of November - Loves Landing - Ocala Chapter Fly-in . 14th of December - Hobby Hill Christmas Fly-in Luncheon . 20th of December - Loves Landing- Chapter Christmas Party. Until then, fly safely, Chuck Mosely (Chuckmo) EAA Chapter 1236 President ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Randy Ott recently competed at the IAC Competition at Sebring, FL. He finished second overall with a first place finish in the Unknown category. He was coached by former U.S. National Champion and fellow EAA 1236 member, Bill Williamson. Randy’s next goal is to get 1st place! and hopefully attend the U S Nationals and bring the title back to Florida. Then after that a long range goal is to win a slot on the United States Aerobatic Team Unlimited.
ALWAYS KNOW WHAT’S IN YOUR FUEL TANKS. Fuel-related accidents occur at the rate of more than one per week. According to an Air Safety Foundation Report in one year 51 fuel exhaustion accidents occurred, and, although there was nothing to fuel a post-crash fire, four were fatal. In that same report another 13 accidents were attributed to fuel starvation and two, one of which was fatal, were caused by fuel contamination. Make sure you manage your fuel wisely. Think of fuel not in gallons or pounds but hours and minutes. ASF recommends that pilots of unfamiliar airplanes add one or two gallons per hour to their computed fuel consumption until they see how much that airplane actually burns. ASF also recommends that pilots never land with less than one hour of fuel in the tanks. That way all the regulatory reserve requirements are met and exceeded by at least 15 minutes. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Doug Craig was recently inducted into the National Old Timers Auto Racing Hall of Fame in Flemington, NJ. After 50+ years of racing at 100+ tracks across the country, Doug was honored. However the “Old Timers” bit has him wondering if they had made a mistake.
| The team task this time was to disassemble the RF-4B Phantom II (the RF-4B is a photo-reconnaissance version of the Phantom) at the U.S. Marine Corps Air Station at Cherry Point, NC and prepare the aircraft for surface transportation. This particular RF-4B will become a part of the outstanding array of aircraft on display at the National Museum of Naval Aviation, Pensacola, FL.
