EAA CHAPTER 1236 Newsletter April 2003
PRESIDENT'S FORUM Having just returned from the National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola where we were dis-assembling two T-2C Buckeye trainer aircraft that are destined for two museums, the Valliant Air Command in Titusville, FL, and the Southern Museum of Flight in Birmingham, AL, I find that it is time once again to provide my part of the monthly newsletter. First of all, our April 12 th meeting with The Hangar Flyers was simply stated, a spectacular event. A very large membership turnout, a very large Hangar Flyers membership turnout, a large number of fly-in aircraft, beautiful weather all day, great food. We could not have ask for anything better. Great exchange of ideas, and stories between all members of our two groups. I received a very heartfelt letter of thanks from Mr. George Link, leader of The Hangar Flyers, thanking us all for our extended hospitality to their organization. I know I sure enjoyed having them as our guests, and I feel as though all of you felt the same way. Thanks to all who provided all of the delicious food items. Thanks to all of the cooks. Thanks to all of the volunteers who helped set up, and tear down after the get together. Special thanks to Ollie and Lorene Washburn, not only for hosting this event, but for all that they do to support our EAA Chapter events. Again, thanks to all of you who made this event so special for our guests, The Hangar Flyers. See all of you at our next meeting: Date : 10 May 2003 Place : Ollie and Lorene Washburn's hangar, Loves Landing - Mid N/S Runway Time : 10:00 a.m. Subject : Aerobatic Flying / Competition Fly safely, Chuck Mosely Chuckmo

DENVER MIDAIR PROVIDES IMPORTANT LESSONS The NTSB recently released the preliminary accident report on a midair collision that occurred between a Piper PA-31T and a Cessna 172P over Denver on January 24. The accident killed five on board both aircraft and injured six on the ground. This accident is one deadly reminder that pilots should always be aware of the positions of other aircraft around them, regardless of airspace classification. Always listen to ATC's transmissions to other pilots, and if another aircraft is being vectored close by, be on high alert. Also, be particularly careful if climbing in a high-wing aircraft or descending in a low-wing aircraft. Blind spots in these situations can lead to two aircraft converging and neither pilot knowing they are in danger. NSTB’s report on this accident can be veiwed at http://www.ntsb.gov/ntsb/brief.asp?ev_id=20030203X00145&key=1
