Once again we made
the flight to Thomasville for the 3 day fly-in. We flew formation
with Bill and Elaine Metz - they in their Clipper and we in the
PA-12. We left in time to have lunch at Ocala and then on to
Thomasville. We had good weather, a
slight headwind but not much. It was about a two hour flight from
home. We spent the afternoon watching other planes land.
Visited with Ann and Harris Bowen, who had arrived before us.
Also saw Dick and Dianne McLean. We had wine
and cheese in our motel room and then an enjoyable meal at Ruby Tuesday,
across the street from the Jamison. Early the next morning a
continental breakfast and then to the airport. The weather was low
ceiling for a while, but cleared up for landing aircraft about 10:00
A.M. Hugh Johnson arrived before lunch and then Dick Krause and Judy
Betz. We also saw Jack Barker, Jim Bassett, Harris Wiese, and Curtis
and Traci McClung. Pretty good turnout for
our chapter. We had a hot dog on the field for lunch and then
decided not to tempt fate (with the weather in the gulf) so we left for
home about 2:30. Had a good trip back.
Thomasville is a great fly-in even when the weather is less than
cooperative. They did have about 200 planes
fly in. With cutting our trip short we were
home in time to make the Avon Park breakfast on Sunday. That was
great, too.
